To connect with the Kindergarteners’ current theme of
study on “The Body”, we read Aliki’s Mis
cinco sentidos. This book is the Spanish version of “My Five Senses” and reading
it gave us an introductory to the Spanish vocabulary words for some of the features
of our face.
eyes – ojos
nose – nariz
tongue - lengua
ears – orejas
hands – manos
Listening
comprehension is easier if supported by visual material. Therefore, using
flashcards with real-life images as a visual tool, we practiced these words and
learned a few others.
mouth – boca
Next,
we played the “swapping” game using the flashcards. This is a game that is
truly loved by all. Ask us how it’s played. We then put these new vocabulary
words together into a song titled, Mi
cuerpo hace musica (My Body Makes Music). Both of these interactive
activities of movement and singing are very valuable for all types of learners.
They increase the children’s interest, fosters active engagement and promotes
deeper learning and retention of the material presented. It is an essential
part of the learning experience, and the children respond enthusiastically!
We
finished our class with our traditional ¡Adios.
Hasta luego! song and Maura squeezing la vaca. ¡Gracias, Maura!
¡Hasta nuestro proximo viaje! (Until
our next flight.)
Paz,
Alicia
