Technology and Literacy

When used in a developmentally appropriately way, technology can be utilized to enhance reading, writing, math, and science skills. Computers, along with iPads and laptops, are creating new opportunities for Kindergarteners to practice literacy skills such as letter recognition, letter formation, and writing.

During Technology class with Michelle, the Kindergarteners were given the opportunity to work on their upper and lower case letter formation abilities. By using the LetterSchool app the Kindergarteners were able to practice letter naming, sound recognition, and formation.  Also, they had the chance to practice forming the numbers 1 - 10.

Letter School follows the same formation techniques as our Handwriting Without Tears program.  When we combine the use of the touch screen with pencil and paper practice, we increase the number of connections in the brain that are used for remembering the proper formation of the letters and numbers.
