Community Building: First Grade Postal Study

This past week a few first graders stopped by our classroom to inform us of their Post Office study. As it turns out, they have been learning about all the different aspects, jobs, and materials needed to run a successful post office. And, as of Monday of last week their Post Office has been up and running. What this means for us is that not only will we have a chance to build community with others in the AFS school environment, but also we will have yet another opportunity to practice our literacy skills.
The Kindergarten teachers have purchased stamps from the first graders and are encouraging the Kindergarteners to write to anyone they choose within the school.  They can practice their letter-writing skills or just simply draw pictures instead of writing a letter. The Kindergarteners will learn how to address the envelopes and place the stamps. Then, they will deliver their mail to the nearby mailbox (a blue box located in the Lower School lobby) and drop in the letters.  Thanks first graders for this wonderful opportunity!
